We can still receive further comments, until 14 Fri October, on our survey of healthcare facilities, proposed healthcare policies and site allocation for Brown Street – the last of which makes potential provision for new healthcare facilities in a central Salisbury location- click here for details
Meanwhile, we have had useful feedback from the NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) which covers Wiltshire which will enable us to make sure that the Neighbourhood Development Plan, after Regulation 14, continues to reflect up to date responsibilities for commissioning [the ICB] and providing [e.g. for NHS Dental Services] the services described in the Neighbourhood Development Plan. We expect to make some amendments to the text and will publicise these and indeed any and all changes made later this year.
Input from the ICB is particularly helpful because it is now responsible for improving the health of our residents and for establishing shared strategic priorities within the NHS

Over 500 comments have already been made on the Salisbury Neighbourhood Development Plan community consultation website.
A neighbourhood plan is a document that sets out planning policies for a local area. The draft has been written by the local community, the people who know and love the area, to ensure the community gets the right types of development, in the right place. Our neighbourhood plan covers many topics such as transport – cycling, walking, EV points, biodiversity and local habitats, the design of building, and specific sites for proposed development.
We want as many comments as possible on the things that matter to you. Due to recent events, the consultation period has been extended to Fri 14 Oct, 2 extra weeks so click here to Have Your Say https://salisburyneighbourhoodplan.commonplace.is/
I’m the chairman of the Salisbury Neighbourhood Plan steering group and I’ve spent hours over the last three days delivering leaflets in West Harnham telling people how they can have their say about the future of our community.
Every city councillor has been asked to ensure that no-one in their ward misses this unique opportunity to influence decision-making at Trowbridge.
Whatever our politics, we are all agreed that we want everyone to be included. We don’t want anyone complaining: “I didn’t know anything about this!”
This is YOUR chance to help decide policies about housing, green spaces, rivers and wildlife, health facilities, allotments, sports provision, clean air, climate change, better building design, transport …. all the things that can help make Salisbury an even nicer place to live, work and visit.
If you don’t like something, say so. Likewise if you do. We’ll digest what you’ve said and make any changes needed to reflect this. Eventually, we’ll hold a referendum.
It’s a long-winded process but if we get this Plan done, the law says Wiltshire Council will have to take it into account when it’s making decisions about our city.
And your city council will get a bigger share of the money developers pay towards facilities when they are given planning permission. That will help us to do more of the things YOU want.
It’s easy to take part in the survey. You can even do it on your phone.

Our policies about living in Salisbury cover discussions about the housing mix in Salisbury and ideas about affordable housing to make sure the right types of property are built in Salisbury in the future.
We have also looked at ideas about how Churchfields and the Engine Shed Site could be used, thinking about how this could benefit local businesses, reduce traffic impacts in the city centre and potentially introduce housing into certain areas.
We also have a policy on healthcare facilities, which has already raised comments. The policy supports the development of health care facilities in the central area of the city and resists the loss of any existing health care facilities.
If you have views on any of this topics, make sure you have your say!
It’s important that we hear your views on the provision of GP services, dentists and services for older peoples in the city.

Green and blue infrastructure refers to the use of blue elements, like rivers, ponds, flood plains, water treatment facilities, and green elements, such as trees, hedges, lawns, fields and parks, in planning and land use.
We have 5 policies which consider how we protect and enhance the city’s green spaces and rivers –our green and blue infrastructure – there is a summary below
1) Enhancing blue and green infrastructure and biodiversity – new developments must provide a minimum of 10% net biodiversity gain
2) Habitat improvement and restoration schemes – development which harms the blue or green infrastructure will not be supported, we have identified specific sites where improvement can be made
3) Open space provision – major development near our open spaces must provide for the maintenance of these sites
4) Local green spaces - we will protect our green sites from development
5) Construction and development management for projects affecting the River Avon SAC – this sets out how project along the rivers in Salisbury should be managed to prevent harm to rare river habitats
